Upcoming Pakistani Films 

Mah-e-Meer

Fahad Mustafa’s film career seems to be starting with two of the most awaited films of this year. Mah-e-Meer is a film which is based on the “Kalaam of the famous poet Meer Taqi Meer”.  It has a very promising cast with big names likeFahad Mustafa, Iman ali, Aly Khan, Sanam Saeed and Manzar Sehbai to attract the attention of the viewers. The film has been directed by Anjum Shahzad and Sarmad Sehbai; both of them need absolutely no introduction. The film has been produced by Khurram Rana, Sahir Rasheed and Badar Ikram.

Saya e Khuda e Zuljalal

This film appears to be especially promising because it has been made by the support of the ISPR and Pakistan Air Force. The film has been directed by Umair Fazli and it has been produced by Jehan Films and AR Productions. The leading cast consists of Shaan Shahid, Noor Bukhari, Resham, Shafqat Cheema Umair Sultan, Nayyer Ijaz, Arbaaz Khan andRambo.

The film promises to take the viewers to those chapters of history of Pakistan that have not been shown on the big or the small screen before.

Hijrat

Hijrat promises to be a “journey that starts with faith and ends with hope”. The film has been written and directed byFarooq Mengal. It has been produced by FM Productions. The story of the film revolves around people who were effected by the Afghan war. The film has been shot in Pakistan and Europe.

The cast of the film consists of Asad Zaman, Rabia Butt, Nauman Ijaz, Nadeem Baig, Salma Aghs, Ayub Khoso, Wiam Dahmani, Mareeha Safdar, Zaib Rehman, Jamal Shah and Durdana Butt.

Mahlab

Mahlab is a romantic film which shows how love can grow amidst hunger and strict customs and traditions. The film has been directed by Asad Jabal and it has been written by Dr. Khalid Ahmed. The cast of the film includes Ayub Khosa , Hannan Sameed , Saboor Ali , Durdana Baloch , Pakiza Khan and  Aftab Jabal.

It is great to see Ayub Khosa’s talent being recognized in all these movies. Only a very short teaser of the film has been released, you can watch it here –

Kites Grounded

This film is based on a theme very different from rest of the films. The film narrates the story of an old man who earned his bread and butter by selling kites. The film shows how his life gets effected when the government imposes a ban on kite flying.

 

The  film has been directed by Murtaza Ali and it has been produced by Seema Hameed. The story of the film has been penned down by Aneeza Syed.  The cast includes some veteran stars such as Irfan Khoosat, Tasneem Kausar, Abid Kashmiri, Tahira Babar, Zohaib Haider, Sana Sehr and Razia Malik.

Moor

Moor is a Pashto word which means mother. The film has been written & directed by Jamshed Mahmood Raza (Jami). It has been produced by Mandiviwalla Entertainment.

The cast of the film includes Hameed Sheikh, Samiya Mumtaz, Shaz Khan, Abdul Qadir, Sonia Hussain, Ayaz Samoo, Nayyar Ijaz, Ishita and Shabbir Rana. The teasers of the movie doesn’t give away much but there is a detailed account of what the movie is about on Wikipedia.

Azaad

Azaad does not have a star cast and neither does it boast of a big budget but I found its trailer very intriguing. It is the first movie of its kind which focuses on what goes inside the mind of a serial killer. The tag line of the film is ” Not every man is born a serial killer”.

The film has been written, directed and produced by Hassam Khan. The cast consists of Hassam Khan, Hammad Siddiq, Maddi Murtaza, Arsal Hassan, Rose Mohammad, Shameen Khan, Arsal Hassan and Natasha Bayg.

Price Of Honor

This film has been written and produced by Afzal M. Khan and Syed Noor has directed the film. The teaser of the film is quite detailed and pretty much tells what the film is about. The main protagonist is a female whose circumstances probably reflect the status of the lower class in our society especially in the rural set up. The film seems to be about the awakening of the weaker class of the society.

This film has the typical Lollywood film feel to it. Here is the trailer of the film –

Gidh

Gidh has been directed by Shamoon Abbasi and it has been produced by J.A.R Production and Shaam Films. The cast of the film consists of Shaan Shahid, Hamayun Saeed Sara Loren, Ayesha Khan, Syed Jibran, Sohaib Khalid, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Imran Patel. The film has been written by Zubair Abbasi.

The film promises glitz, glam, some action along with romance.

Kambakht is another film with an interesting cast, the viewers will get to see their favorite television stars on the big screen for the first time. The cast of the film includes Humayun Saeed, Shafqat Cheema, Shehreyar Munawar Siddiqui, Sohai Ali Abro, Fizza Zehra, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Latif Sheikh, Gohar Rasheed, Salman Shaukat, Meisam, Ahmed Cheema, Mohammad Atif Siddique, Jalal Haider Khan and Yousuf Bashir Qureshi.

Hamza Ali Abbasi has written the film along with Mohammad Atif Siddique, Jawad Rana. The film has also been directed by Hamza Ali Abbasi. Kambakht has been produced by Eyad Ibrahim, Sharmeen Khan & Saad Anwar Abbasi (ARY Films and Kahani Films).

This film is going to be Hamza Ali Abbasi’s brain child because he is in-charge of the screen play too.  Shehryar Munawar Siddiqui plays “the Kambakht man”!

Swaa Rangi

This film is an International co-production between Australia and Pakistan. It has been produced by Mazhar Abbass andSummer Nicks. Sawaa Rangi has been directed by Phida Hussain. The film stars Resham, Ayub Khosa, Naveed Akbar, Waseem Manzoor,Zulfiqar Gullshahi, Aftab Nisar, Hamza Mushtaq and Shahzaib Johar.

Resham plays the leading role in the film. Here is the teaser of the film –

Abdullah

The film Abdullah has been shot in Balochistan too just like few of the other films in the list. The film has been written and directed by Hashim Nadeem Khan. The story of the film is based on a novel written by Hashim Nadeem Khan. The leading cast consists of Imran Abbass and Sadia Khan. There was news that the film would be released in 2013 but it has not been released till date.

The film Na Maloom Afraad has been directed by Nabeel Qureshi and produced by Fizza Ali Meerza. The film is a comic/satirical take on the current situation in Karachi. The cast of the film consists of the following actors: Javed Sheikh, Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbass Haider, Urwa Hocane, Kubra Khan, Salman Shahid, Amber Wajid  and of courseMehwish Hayat will make a “guest appearance” in the film.

I liked Fahad Mustafa much more in this comic role than the serious one which he plays in Mah–e-Meer. Here is the trailer of the film –

Kanebaaz

Mohib Mirza and Amina Sheikh will be seen on screen once again in the upcoming film Kanebaaz. The film has been directed by Ali Sade, it has been written by Syed Muhammad Ahmed and Adeel Farhan is the producer of the film. The cast includes Mohib Mirza, Aamina Sheikh, Faisal Rehman, Rashid Farooqi, Shabbir Jan, Hassan Uzmi and Behroze Sabzwari.

Operation 021

The film has been written and  directed by Summer Nicks and it has been produced by Zeba Bakhtiar and Azaan Sami Khan. Aamina Sheikh is the co producer of the film. The main cast of the film includes Shaan Shahid, Shamoon Abbassi, Aamina Sheikh, Ayub Khoso, Iman Ali and Ayaz Samoo.

 Jalebi

This film has been produced ARY Films and Redrum Films. The cast consists of Adnan Jafar, Ali Safina, Danish Taimoor,Uzair Jaswal, Waqar Ali Khan and Zhalay Sarhadi. According to Ary News ” The film has been shot via ARRI Alexa HD cameras. The cameras were used in Hollywood films such as Skyfall, Gravity and the super hero film Iron Man 3.”

The film has been directed by Yasir Jaiswal. Jalebi promises to be a trendsetter because some scenes of the film are animated.

So, which movie interests you the most? Making this list wasn’t easy but I felt pride every step of the way. There are many interesting movies to look forward to which deal with so many different topics. Sultanat,  Dukhtar, and Hotal are set to release in 2014 too. Films like Yalghaar, Dance Kahani and Kaptaan are in the pipeline too. I am really looking forward to the fun/comedy films in particular.
